Boyne Valley Historical Society

The Boyne Valley Historical Society Cottage was opened in 1988. The Society was formed by a group of enthusiastic volunteers with a desire to preserve the vast history of the Boyne Valley, which dates back to the 1870’s, when gold & copper mining put the Valley on the map, followed by the settlers who pioneered industries such as cattle grazing, farm produce, dairying and a thriving timber & saw-milling industry, which still exists today.
Tourists who want to leave the usual tourist trail and enjoy some genuine country hospitality & historically significant sites should make sure they put the Boyne Valley on their itinerary. With the exception of Many Peaks, the four small towns of the Boyne Valley, Nagoorin, Ubobo, Builyan and Many Peaks, are dotted along the Boyne River. The scenic drive along the newly sealed road from Calliope, or across the Blackman’s Gap Road (some dirt) from Miriam Vale, takes less than an hour.

Photo Gallery, Historical Open Day July 2011

We had a successful day on the 10th of July. After a chilly start the day was a typical warm sunny Queensland Winter day. A good crowd enjoyed the displays, billy tea & damper smoko, followed by a sausage sizzle lunch. Children joined in games from yesteryear. A feature of the day was separating cream from milk and making butter by hand.

Photo Gallery, Glassford Mine Trip 2011

There was an overwhelming turnout from the local and wider Central Queensland community on Saturday, 26 November 2011. People travelled from Bundaberg, Gladstone and Moura to join the Boyne Valley locals in the exploration of the Glassford Creek region.

Open Days and Devonshire Teas

On open days, local volunteers gather at the Society’s cottage in Ubobo, to share the history of our Valley with visitors. Each year we also have a tour to places of interest.
Delicious homemade Devonshire Teas are available once you reach the Cottage, where you can relax on the veranda, or under the trees and enjoy the quiet country atmosphere.

The cottage houses a large display of photographs and memorabilia which convey a sense of bygone days. Special theme days allow us to vary the displays and feature items from the collections of long term residents and interested parties. A Special Tour of an historic local site is organized annually. Check this site soon for this year’s tour destination.

The Cottage can be opened  by prior arrangement. For further information contact: 49 741207.
